The rent cap for civil workers’ homes has been raised

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Tuesday issued a notification regarding the increase in the homes rent ceiling of civil servants working in different departments, ministries and divisions.

The housing allowance has been enhanced by up to Rs 30,000 for students in grades 20 to 21. The federal government would pay a monthly home rent of Rs98,000 to a grade-22 officer. Employees in grades 1 to 6 have had their home rent hiked to Rs 3,000.

The housing rent ceiling for public workers in grades 11 to 13 would increase by Rs7,500. Civil officials in grades 14 to 16 would earn up to Rs 9,000 per month in housing rent, while those in grades 17 and 18 will receive up to Rs 12,500 per month.

House allowance for civil workers in grades 7 to 10 will be Rs5,000. In light of the high rents in major cities, particularly Islamabad, the federal cabinet had already approved a 44% rise in the housing rent allowance maximum for government employees.

Official employees who do not live in government housing are eligible for house-rent allowances.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told the media last week that the federal government’s housing rent cap is reviewed every three years, and the PTI administration has taken this step to give relief to federal employees.
