The president exhorts national players to concentrate on their work

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi expressed his confidence in the national sports teams’ abilities on Sunday, urging players to focus on their on-field performance in order to bring more honour to the country.

The president said that sports have always contributed to healthy activities, developing the desire to compete and excel while maintaining maximum performance, while speaking at the closing ceremony of the DTA 14th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Amateur Golf Cup here at the Margalla Greens Golf Club.

The president also expressed his desire for sports such as golf to be encouraged in the country, noting that sports can help people learn new things.

Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, Chief of Naval Staff, and a significant number of civil and military leaders, as well as golfers, attended the occasion.

In a reference to the national cricket team, the president stated that the players had previously been subjected to prejudice.

During the Covid-19 epidemic, the present Pakistan cricket team visited the United Kingdom, he claimed, citing the cancellation of other teams’ visits to Pakistan.

He stated that the prime minister had correctly advised the national team to concentrate on their performance on the field, which was crucial.

The president went on to say that the Pakistani people were endowed with qualities and talents. The national teams, he added, would bring more success to the country if they maintained their performance, dignity, and self-esteem.

The president also recounted a famous cricketing event in which West Indian great Vivian Richards battered England’s famed bowler Bob Willis with his brilliant batting.

The president praised the Margalla Golf Club for consistently planting trees to preserve a beautiful green landscape. He also talked about his experiences at the Karachi Golf Club.

He claimed that humans have a natural desire to seek out greenery and to catch a sight of natural landscape everywhere they go.

The president congratulated the award winners on their well-deserved victory and praised all of the competitors for their outstanding sporting standards.

Following that, the president presented medals and prizes to the winners in the amateur, senior amateur, and women categories.

For earning the championship, Major Saleem of Quetta Golf Club was presented with the winner’s trophy.

The Pakistan Navy has always worked hard to promote various sports activities and enhance overall sporting standards at both the national and international levels. The CNS Amateur Golf Cup, which lasts four days, is an annual event on the PGF and Pakistan Navy sports calendars.
