Pakistani people experienced something they never seen before this year. An auction was held on an internet site for 20 Ethereum tokens, ‘Friendship ended with Mudasir’ one of the most viral memes in the country.
It was rather fresh, fascinating and social communication soon stirred up with friends who talked about the memes they produced, and wondered whether they might be traded as fungible tokens – a new sort of digital commodity.
Cryptocurrency and digital assets were not mentioned for the first time. Even the government thought about how Khyber Pakhtunkhwa might benefit from them, saying that it plans to establish two ‘mining farms’ for hydropower.
There are also several social media groups that promise to educate newbies all they need to know about cryptocurrencies and how to mine them.
It looks as if Pakistanis ignore alternative digital assets and technologies that can satisfy their economic demands, due to the excitement and debate around cryptocurrencies and to a lesser extent NFT’s.
