NAB DEPUTY CHAIRMAN DG ZAHIR SHAH IS LIKELY TO BE APPOINTED

ISLAMABAD: Zahir Shah, the Director General (DG) Operations of the National Accountability Bureau, is expected to be named deputy chairman of the NAB, according to ARY News, which cited sources.

A summary requesting his nomination has been sent to the Ministry of Law and Justice, from whence it will be transmitted to the Prime Minister’s Office for confirmation. President Arif Alvi will offer his final permission when Prime Minister Imran Khan has provided his agreement.

At the moment, Zahir Shah is the DG Operations NAB at the headquarters. It should be mentioned that the position of vice chairman of the NAB became vacant on October 4 after Hussain Asghar resigned.

Pakistan’s President, Dr. Arif Alvi, authorised the resignation.

It’s worth noting that the National Accountability Bureau’s Lahore branch requested authorization from its chairman, Justice retd Javed Iqbal, in August this year to pursue Deputy Chairman NAB Hussain Asghar on embezzlement accusations.

According to reports, the Chairman NAB Justice retd Javed Iqbal received a letter from the Lahore bureau requesting authorisation for an inquiry into the alleged corruption of Rs300 million by Hussain Asghar.

It said, according to sources, that former Commandant Punjab Constabulary Hussain Asghar had issued letters for ghost appointments and withdrew hefty sums in terms of salaries of these officials.

“The national exchequer had to suffer losses of Rs300 million in terms of salaries withdrawn,” the request seeking approval from chairman NAB said while pointing out the irregularities committed during the 2016-17 audit report.
