KP Makes Quranic Studies Compulsory For Matric & Inter:
Quranic Studies now to be a compulsory subject for Matriculation (10th) and Intermediate (12th) by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government.
This verdict was made in accordance with the directions of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
In the 2023 annual Matriculation and Intermediate examinations, a 75-mark test for the topic will be added to the current subjects, increasing the total marks from 1,100 to 1,225.
Students from the province’s religious minority populations will study an extra Ethics-based topic in addition to Quranic Studies. Following this addition, the number of required topics will be raised to five.
The Boards of Education have also asked the Directorate of Education for advice on the 75-point paper that will be included in the 2023 annual examinations.
Furthermore, the provincial education department has instructed the higher education department to carry out this decision and has given suggestions for the subject’s teaching at colleges.
Quranic Studies are already taught and learned in KP from the elementary level to the eighth grade. An petition was made to the PHC for the subject to be made compulsory and for a formal examination to be held. In response to the appeal, the court recently decided to make the subject mandatory.
