Babar Azam overtakes Chris Gayle as the fastest player to achieve 7000 T20 runs

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s all-format captain, reached another another milestone on Sunday. He surpassed flamboyant West Indian batsman Chris Gayle as the fastest player to achieve 7,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Babar attained the milestone during Central Punjab’s National T20 Cup match against Southern Punjab.

When he came onto the crease yesterday, he was only four runs short from reaching the century mark.

Babar surpassed Gayle’s 7,000-run mark, which he reached in his 192nd inning.

In the 189th inning, Babar Azam accomplished the milestone.

Babar was three innings shy of Chris Gayle’s record when he reached 6,000 runs earlier this year. In only 22 innings since then, he has added another 1,000 runs to his total T20 runs record.

In T20Is, he has 2,204 runs out of 7,000. He even broke Virat Kohli’s record for the fastest player to achieve 2,000 runs in T20Is in April of this year. He defeated Kohli by a four-wicket margin.

Pakistani skipper became the 11th player to score 2,000 runs in T20Is.

Babar hammered his sixth T20 century last week, giving him a record for the most T20 hundreds by a Pakistani batsman. Babar Azam has the best ratio of the 50s/innings in T20 cricket among all the top batsmen in the globe, with 64 runs of 50 or more from 186 innings.
